Les Grands Ballets will embark on its first U.S. tour in 10 years, for four shows in February 2024. The company will present the Dancing Beethoven program, featuring Garrett Smith's Symphony No. 5 and Uwe Scholz's Symphony No. 7.
Garrett Smith celebrates individuality with his creation on Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, one of the most important and recognized symphonies in the world. Drawing inspiration from the uniqueness and distinctiveness of each individual, Smith crafts a work that celebrates the power of self-acceptance: an ode to newfound freedom as masks fall away. (This creation is also known as Complete.)
With Symphony No. 7 by the late German choreographer Uwe Scholz (1958-2004), the dancers enter a symbiotic relationship with Beethoven's imposing music. The work becomes a leitmotif, with its athletic prowess and unison dance geometry. Presented for the first time as the opening of the 2017 season, it instantly captured the hearts of Montrealers.
