The Nutcracker is a Montreal holiday tradition, but not all families have the good fortune to see it. Committed to being there for everyone, Les Grands Ballets wants to give back to the community and give all children the gift of The Nutcracker. That’s why we created The Nutcracker Fund.
Thanks to the invaluable support of our partners and donors, this educational program has been providing a complete immersion in the world of The Nutcracker for over 25 years:
Aiming to democratize ballet, and foster an interest in the arts, the youth program offers children inclusive access to the arts with a variety of initiatives designed to foster their artistic awakening in a playful and creative way.
The online auction in support of the Nutcracker Fund is underway, a perfect opportunity to contribute in a different way. There's something for every taste, age and budget! Treat your loved ones while supporting our educational program for vulnerable children.
Don't miss your chance, the auction ends on December 10 at 6 p.m.
This program targets young people in vulnerable situations, including children who:
The Fund also supports the annual refurbishment of sets and costumes for The Nutcracker, which has been an annual fixture for close to 60 years!
On December 19, 2023, a complete performance of The Nutcracker with orchestra will be presented free of charge for 2,800 children, including:
1,400 children who are sick or vulnerable, coming from foundations selected by our donors and partners, as well as the following foundations selected by Les Grands Ballets :
On May 29th, the dress rehearsal of Giselle will be open to young people of varying abilities (autism, intellectual disability, Down syndrome and neurocognitive disorders). To accommodate these spectators’ sensory needs, lights will be dimmed, music will be adjusted, break areas will be set up outside the theatre, and guests will be encouraged to move and express themselves throughout the show.
Throughout the fall, nearly 250 dance and visual arts workshops will be facilitated by professional artists in 60 classes selected by A Montréal School for All (a ministère de l’Éducation program), catering to 1,400 students from underprivileged backgrounds. It makes for a fun, interactive and creative introduction to the world of ballet and The Nutcracker. It's also a great way to encourage artistic awakening in our young people while boosting their self-esteem and discouraging dropping out of school.
To share the show’s wonder and magic with those who can’t necessarily make it to the theatre, Les Grands Ballets’ dancers will also be visiting sick and vulnerable children at foundations and hospitals selected by our partners and donors.
Did you know that The Nutcracker is Canada’s longest-running production on the same stage?
The Nutcracker Fund supports the annual refurbishment of costumes and sets for the show, which has been running for almost 60 years!
