Following its move to the Édifice Wilder : Espace danse in September 2017, the Centre has launched a set of services in adapted dance and dance/movement therapy for people with special needs.
Currently the Centre offers the following classes:
We are also interested in developing the following classes:
- Ballet – Intellectual Impairments (AD)
- Dance for Chronic Pain (DMT)
- Dance – Mild Cognitive Impairments (AD)
- Dance Therapy for Young Adults) (DMT)
- Dance Therapy for Chronic Pain: Adults over 50 (DMT)
DMT = Dance/movement therapy¹
AD = Adapted dance²
¹Dance/movement therapy is used either as a complement to various medical or psychotherapeutic treatments or as a main therapy. The American Dance Therapy Association (ADTA) defines DMT as the “use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual, for the purpose of improving health and well-being”.
All the DMT classes at the NCDT are offered by certified dance-therapists or DMT interns.
²Adapted dance has a recreative goal and is dedicated to having fun, while in a safe and adapted environment.
All the adapted dance classes are offered by a duo, with a dance professor assisted by a health professional (including dance-therapists).
Classes take place at Les Grands Ballets' Studios. Find all the information on classes currently being offered, registration and the class schedule :
