Workshops on cerebral palsy by choreographer Tamar Rogoff
''In the process, she has changed his view of himself and of his possibilities. ''

The workshops are organized by Cinédanse in connection with the First International Symposium for Dance and Well-Being.
Tamar Rogoff has drawn up a program of exercises through which participants will experience a new approach to management of their motor skills. Just like Gregg Mozgala, who learned to break with movement patterns created by cerebral palsy, participants will get to discover parts of their bodies over which they had little control before and that can be sources of motor rehabilitation. Thus, certain exercises, based on the neuroplasticity of the brain, are aimed at breaking with the habits acquired in our way of moving and at exploring new avenues in motor control. Other exercises will exploit the technique of “involuntary shaking,” in which muscle relaxation lessens tension in the body while also reducing pain signals and increasing the sense of well-being. All the exercises in the workshops are inspired by the rehabilitation work that enabled Mozgala to relax his movements and to walk with his feet flat on the ground.
For dance professionals and interested artists in all circumstances.
The first workshop is intended for artists and dance professionals who, in the second workshop and with the same exercises, will guide people with cerebral palsy or motor disorders. Professionals in health and research and academics with links to these fields may join the workshops. The workshops require no previous training.
For people with cerebral palsy, movement disorders, and for members of their families, and medical professionals, researchers and academics; they will be joined by the artists who attended workshop 1.
Screening of the documentary Enter the Faun (subtitled in French) will precede each workshop and be followed by a period of discussion with the participants.
The same workshops will be offered in Québec City on Saturday, May 19.
