A visionary artist and physiotherapist, Brigitte brings back the pleasure of moving for those who would have otherwise abandoned it. She redefines overcoming perceived or real limits by detecting expressive and functional needs and using them to stimulate social involvement. Dance is, according to her, a motor force in life, a mode of resilience and a therapy to help those who seek to improve their quality of life, regardless of their condition. Trained to become a dance therapist, Brigitte is also certified in Laban movement analysis and Bartenieff Foundations.
Because it is necessary to stay healthy.
All the time: it means I’m alive!
And let my body take control.
With a bachelor's degree in dance from UQAM, Brigitte has traveled to New York to study with the great masters of contemporary dance, including Martha Graham, and at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies, allowing her to become certified in Laban movement analysis and Bartenieff Foundations. She continues her reflection on functional movement by integrating several somatic education techniques to her work (Feldenkreis, Body-Mind Centering and several others). It is thanks to this reflection that she has decided to pursue a career as a scientist of movement by becoming a physiotherapist.
In 2006, she launched her first dance therapy program at the Constance Lethbridge Rehabilitation Center. Brigitte Lachance is the recipient of several awards, scholarships and research grants and is continuing to implement this program at the CIUSSS du Centre-sud-de-l'Ile-de-Montréal. In 2015, she was part of the first cohort of the Alternate Route training program at the National Centre for Dance Therapy.
