Benjamin Hatcher has nearly 40 years of training, professional career, choreographic creations and teaching in the Quebec dance community and in Canada. He danced for seventeen years with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, and the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault. He interpreted major roles of the Grands Ballets repertoire, in such prominent works as Carmina Burana, In Paradisum, The Green Table, Before Nightfall, Désir, Piccolo Mondo, The Nutcracker as well as Eironos, Les ombres (choreographic installation), Les Années de Pèlerinage, L’exil-l’oubli, Nuit and Les petites sociétés for La Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault.
Benjamin has been member of teaching faculties at l'École Nationale de Cirque in Montreal and l'École de danse de Québec.
Hatcher has created over 30 choreographic works. Recipient of numerous grants, he was also the recipient of the 2002 Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award, presented under the auspices of The Banff Centre in Alberta, and awarded to emerging choreographic talent on the Canadian dance scene. He was moreover the first prize recipient of the 1998 choreographic competition of the Festival des arts de Saint-Sauveur. Hatcher's choreographic work, Harem, lifting the veils opened the 2005 edition of the Festival du monde Arabe in Montreal. Hatcher's 2008 creation, The Soul Project premiered at the Rotonde in Quebec city in February 2008 to much critical acclaim and was later performed in the early fall of the same year at the Gesu in Montreal.
As a dancer, Benjamin participated in the Soirée carte blanche Marc Béland at the Festival Quartiers Danses of Montréal in 2012. For over fifteen years, Benjamin has been acting in various television and movie productions. In September of 2011, he danced and acted in the acclaimed production of Equus at the George Segal Centre for the Arts of Montreal, directed by Domy Reiter-Soffer.
Currently, Benjamin is involved as a creator in the contemporary tap movement in Quebec.
With the well-being of his clientele constantly in mind, Hatcher’s transmits learning with enthusiasm and respect. He is delighted to join the team at Les Studios Grands Ballets.
