Les Grands Ballets Canadiens’ unique and innovative holistic approach to dance laid the foundations for the National Centre for Dance Therapy (NCDT), an organization that champions the many benefits of dance. With the centre’s creation, the value of well-being joined the ranks of the company’s basic values, alongside excellence, risk-taking, openness and inclusion, and complements its wish to give back to the community.
The NCDT in Numbers
Nearly 1,700 people have benefited from the NCDT’s services since its creation in 2013
25 facilitators hired all year long
1 program in dance therapy training
8 workshops/webinars a year
8 research projects
Ten specific needs are addressed, including Down syndrome, autism, mental health, intellectual disabilities, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer diseases, physical disabilities, aging, dementia, young people under judicial protection, etc.
The dancers are at the heart of the company, and deserve all our attention. The company therefore takes great care to monitor and preserve their physical and mental health in order to prevent injury and allow them to practice their discipline in a safe way and for as long as possible, the cornerstone of performance quality.
We take care of others - and our own as well!
