Departed addresses our intimate connections and the feeling one experiences on the loss of a loved one. An unfillable void, a life forever changed. The piece is an evocation from various standpoints of the almost crippling sensation of being deprived of a great love, and the absence of a familiar presence: life lived mechanically, the same thing done over and over with that loved one now done alone.
