By Kristen Cere
Canadian choreographer Kristen Cere is interested in the complexity and depth of human emotion. Delightful Disruption attempts to investigate the fragile and dark regions within us longing for light. In this intimate piece of contemporary ballet, Cere uses movement to explore a way of navigating through visceral and raw expression while taking a closer look at the shadow within.
“Delightful Disruption is an attempt to investigate the secret regions within us that are longing for light, no matter how tough it is to disclose to ourselves and others. I'd like to look into the difficulties we experience when life appears to be turned upside down, and how unexpected growth, transformation, and beauty emerge from these life disturbances.”

First sequence:
I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint:
my heart is like wax;
it is melted in the midst of my bowels. *
Second sequence:
If music be the food of love sing on…
And let the fruits of song bring comfort to my soul and everlasting rest. **
*Psalm 22, verse 14, King James Version
**Henry Purcell, Z. 379 after Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
“Delighful Disruption by Kristen Céré is a favorite. With its thrown gestures, “sock-slides” that move the dancers sideways across the floor, little frenzies of hands, the piece echoes the internal and external movements of this irresistible white-haired old lady.”
Catherine Lalonde, Le Devoir
"This piece won over the audience with its sheer beauty and energy."
Isabelle Lareau, La Bible Urbaine
