Les Grands Ballets Canadiens congratulates James Kudelka who was honored with a 2023 Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award (Dance) at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards.
James Kudelka was Principal dancer in the company between 1981 à 1997 and resident choreographer from 1983 to 1991. He has created numerous works for Les Grands Ballets which have been highly successful in Montreal and in Canada, as well as internationally. Among those titles, Les Grands Ballets’ audience will remember his spellbinding In Paradisum (1983), the lyricism of Alliances (1984) on Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, Dracula (1985) with the participation of Margis Gillis, the powerfulness of his Rite of Spring (1987) to Stravinsky, and the virtuosity of the seven duets in Desir (1991).
