Simon Guilbault designs sets for theater, opera, dance, circus, ballet and film.
Design for recent theatre productions includes La dernière Cassette (2023), directed by Olivier Choinière and Mille (2023), directed by Mani Soleymanlou. Also Les filles du Saint- Laurent (2021) and Les Hardings (2018), directed by Alexia Burger.
He also collaborates with Marie Brassard creating set designs for Peepshow (2015 and 2005), Trieste (2013), The Invisible (2008), The Darkness (2003) and Jimmy (2001), plays that have been acclaimed both in Quebec and internationally. The play Jimmy has been seen on stages of the Théâtre de l'Odéon in Paris, Berlin Sophiensaele and the Barbican Center in London.
Among his accomplishments include his work with Claude Poissant, Marc Beaupré, Jorane, Brigitte Haentjens, Daniel Fortin, Jérémie Niel, Geoffrey Gaquère and Dominic Champagne.
For Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, he designs sets for the new production of Cinderella (2023).
In the realm of opera, he collaborates with stage director Oriol Tomas and creates sets for La Traviata (2019) at the Icelandic Opera and for Twenty-Seven (2019) at l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Montréal.
With Cirque du Soleil, he designs the sets for Festa (2023), Amora (2022), Divas (2022), Rebel (2019), Joyeux Calvaire – Homage aux Cowboys Fringuants (2019), Juste une p’tite nuite – Hommage aux Colocs (2018), Bazzar (2018) et Stone - Hommage à Luc Plamondon (2017).
In dance he collaborates with Line Nault for Nom de non (2021) and Super-Super (2018) and with Dana Gingras for Mountains are mountains (2023) and Somewhere Between Maybe (2015).
His film work includes the production design for Le bruit des arbres (2014) by Francois Péloquin and for Lost Song (2007) by Rodrigue Jean.
