Originally from the Netherlands, Gaby Baars studied at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam. His talent was noticed at the Prix de Lausanne in 1990 and at the Eurovision contest in Paris, where he was a finalist in 1989. He began his professional career with the Netherlands Dans Theater, a company with which he performed Jiri Kylián's repertoire and danced for several choreographers, including Nacho Duato, Billy Forsyth and Ohad Naharin. In 1992, he joined Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and danced as a soloist in works by Jean-Christophe Maillot, George Balanchine, Michel Fokine and Lucinda Childs. From 2003 to 2015, he was ballet master and assistant to Jean-Christophe Maillot. Since 2016, he has taught in the professional division of the École supérieure.
