On October 20, Les Grands Ballets’ National Centre for Dance Therapy presented a very special show. As part of its partnership with BNP Paribas and its foundation, which supports the development of the Centre’s youth projects, Les Grands Ballets welcomed, for the first time in Montreal, French choreographer Abou Lagraa, who worked with a group of students from the Calixa-Lavallée high school in Montreal North. Inspired by the music of Pergolese, 18 girls from the school, with the help of and Abou Lagraa, created, through four intensive workshops, a 28-minute hip-hop show of professional quality, complete with lighting and scenography, and inspired by Les Grands Ballets’ Stabat MATER production, which they were previously invited to attend.
The group was also able to perform on stage, in the Edifice Wilder’s Salle Rouge, in front of friends, families, partners and employees of BNP Paribas and Les Grands Ballets – a remarkable achievement!
A moving and successful moment, made possible thanks to BNP Paribas’ Dream Up program and the « Parle avec ton rythme » program of the Montreal Dance Institute, the Calixa-Lavallée school and the Saint-Vincent-de-Paul Society.
