Young Filipino Canadian tenor Mishael Eusebio is a remarkable performer. Often described as creative and charismatic, he knows how to colour each project uniquely. His interpretation of young Harvey in the world premiere of Opera Theatre of Saint Louis' Harvey Milk Reimagined was enthusiastically received.
His recent experience bears witness to the enthusiasm opera houses have for this artist, which don't hesitate to invite him back. Indeed, Mr. Eusebio has been entrusted with several roles at Opéra de Montréal, including Un Passager in Le Flambeau de la nuit; Liverto, Tribuno and Soldato in L'incoronazione di Poppea; and understudy to Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, a role he also performed at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, a company where he also played the role of Rose's Fiancé in Awakenings.
Other notable roles include the Navigator and Manoj in A Space of Sky with the Houston Grand Opera's Atelier; the King in A Dragon's Tale with Toronto's Tapestry Opera; and Bardolfo in Falstaff with Atelier de l'Opéra de Montréal. He has also taken part in several premieres, notably in Banff with Musique 3 Femmes and Juilliard's Opera-Composer Collaborative Project, which premiered at National Sawdust in Brooklyn.
In addition to being supported by the Art Song Foundation of Canada, Mishael Eusebio was named a Colburn Fellow at Songfest Los Angeles, where he collaborated with artists such as John Harbison, Lydia Brown and Graham Johnson.
On the oratorio scene, he has performed with the vocal ensemble Musica Sacra, as well as with the Bach Ensemble at St.Thomas, where he was tenor-soloist-in-residence, performing a large number of Bach cantatas with members of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
A semi-finalist in the OSM Competition (2021) and a finalist in the American National Opera Association Competition (2020), Mishael Eusebio is also a winner of the Poulenc Prize from the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques (2023), the John C. Erskine Prize (2019) and the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions Encouragement Prize (2020). A graduate of the Juilliard School of Music and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), Mishael Eusebio was a member of the Atelier Lyrique de l'Opéra de Montréal until June 2023.
His curiosity and artistic versatility have enabled him to explore other forms of scenic art, particularly in experimental theater with Expect Theatre in Toronto, Beyond the Machine at Juilliard, as well as creating the role of Winnie in Summerland, the Musical, critically acclaimed at the Toronto Theatre Fringe Festival.
Following his debut with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Carmina Burana, he will next sing in the same work with the Orchestre symphonique de Gatineau.
