François Barbeau, a highly esteemed costume designer who unfortunately passed away in January 2016, has gained world-wide recognition for his talents in costume design, particularly in the fields of theater, film, television and dance.
Among dance companies, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens has made the most frequent use of François Barbeau’s talents. He has designed costumes for John Butler’s Catulli Carmina; Brian Macdonald’s Adieu Robert Schumann, Fête Carignan, and Jeu de cartes; Fernand Nault’s Carmina Burana, Les Sept Péchés capitaux and Tommy. In 1987, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Les Grands Ballets, François Barbeau created the marvellous costumes of The Nutcracker which will dazzle us again this year.
