Join Luca “Lazylegz” Patuelli as he shares his inclusive teaching methods and extensive experience in the world of dance.
This introductory workshop provides participants with insight into integrating people with physical disabilities into dance activities, including classes, choreography, and community recreational events. Founder and Artistic Director of ILL-Abilities and the No Excuses No Limits movement, recipient of the Grand Prix du Conseil des arts de Montréal, Luca is a distinguished dancer, choreographer, and educator with over 20 years of experience. Recognized for bringing together people of all ages and abilities, he uses dance as a powerful tool for creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
Drawing on Luca’s extensive experience, this workshop introduces methods and concepts. Participants will gain a foundational understanding of movement adaptation and the importance of focusing on each individual's strengths. Through collaborative activities, this workshop builds confidence and encourages participants to push beyond perceived limitations while exploring their own abilities and creative potential. Luca firmly believes that everyone deserves the opportunity to dance and express themselves.
Participants should arrive ready to move. Comfortable clothing is recommended; shoes are optional. Please note that equipment such as crutches, wheelchairs, and walkers may be used during the dance activities.
Luca "Lazylegz" Patuelli is best known as the visionary founder and artistic director of ILL-Abilities™, an international crew made up of some of the world's top breakers who have overcome extraordinary challenges. Founded in 2007, the crew uses dance and the performing arts as a powerful vehicle for social change, challenging stereotypes about perceived limitations and creating opportunities through dance. ILL-Abilities™ has performed in more than 30 countries, sharing its message of "No Excuses, No Limits" with audiences around the world. Highlights include performances at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Kennedy Center, Singapore's Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Mexico, and many more.
As an artistic director and choreographer, Luca brings a unique vision to every project by demonstrating how each individual's distinct talents can be transformed into powerful expressions of resilience. His leadership has earned him international recognition through collaborations with renowned artists and organizations such as Coldplay, Lara Fabian, Les Muses, Théâtre Denise-Pelletier, Cirque du Soleil, Place des Arts, the True Colours Festival, Whisper Productions, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the opening ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Games. He has also served as a mentor and outside eye for numerous artists within the community, continually inspiring audiences around the world to rethink the very concept of limits.
