Join Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo from A'nó:wara Dance Theatre for an insightful talk and hands-on experience to discover the dances of the Indigenous peoples of this land, Turtle Island. Learn more about the histories, cultures, and current realities of the hosts of the territory we all live on today. The workshop will include a lecture, a Q&A session, and the opportunity to learn some of our dances.

Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo is Kanien’keha:ka (Mohawk) from Kahnawake. She now lives in Montreal, where she is the artistic director and choreographer of A'nó:wara Dance Theatre. A celebrated choreographer and performer for over 30 years, she creates performances that highlight Indigenous themes, stories, and perspectives. She achieves this by blending pow-wow, Haudenosaunee, and contemporary dance styles to create an artistic fusion that resonates with diverse audiences. Diabo is proud to share her culture and performs across Canada and internationally. Her dance perfor*mance, Danseurs *du Ciel, won the Best Touring Production Award at the 2022 Dora Mavor Awards, and she also received the prestigious Montreal Dance Award (Performer) in 2021.
She has performed on television in shows such as PULSE (APTN), Le Grand Solstice (Radio-Canada), Revolution (TVA), Laissez-nous raconter (Radio-Canada), and Indigenous Day Live (APTN), to name a few. Barbara also collaborates with several organizations to raise awareness, create safe spaces, and support Indigenous artists worldwide. Diabo performs and creates for future generations, in honor of her ancestors, to foster a sense of belonging, for those who cannot dance, to inspire, communicate, encourage cultural pride, and uplift spirits.
