Joanna Abbatt, a recognized specialist in corrective movement, is offering a unique workshop designed specifically for dance educators. Combining theoretical and practical exploration, this workshop will help you better understand movement anatomy while providing concrete tools to enhance your teaching and prevent injuries.
Through demonstrations and practical exercises, participants will deepen their understanding of the structure and function of the human body in the context of dance. The workshop will cover the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems and their roles in creating movement.

Joanna Abbatt maintains a private practice in Montreal based on corrective movement for professionals in dance, yoga and many other specialized fields. Her background spans 15 years in dance, studies in biomechanics, and certifications in pilates, gyrotonics, and massage therapy, among other techniques.
She holds a Master's degree in Biomechanics from McGill University and a BFA (Honours) in Dance from York University. She was one of the first practitioners to bring pilates to Montreal in 1990, before the arrival of commercial studios, and even introduced pilates to Cirque du Soleil for their shows Alegria, Saltimbanco et Mystère.
She has taught functional anatomy for dance and yoga teachers in Montreal since the early 2000s at Concordia University, Ashtanga Yoga Montreal, Naada Yoga, Wanderlust and Zéro-Gravité, as well as at the École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec, where she is a movement consultant. She is a certified massage therapist (massokinésitherapie) and a registered member of the FQM (Fédération Québécoise des Massothérapeutes).
Her focus has always been on keeping her clients mobile and helping to resolve mechanical problems of the body in action. She has taught workshops and worked with various personalities across Canada and the United States.
