Dear Audience,
First and foremost, I hope this finds you and your loved ones well. On behalf of our artists and the whole Les Grands Ballets team, I send our best wishes of health and courage to all of those who are affected by Covid-19.
We are currently living in unprecedented times that have brought many changes to the cultural landscape over the past few weeks and have altered the course of our 2019-2020 season. On March 11, following the closing of Place des Arts as a preventive measure against the spread of Covid-19, we have postponed the performances of Luna.
Following the closing of the Canadian borders and, therefore, the inability of the National Ballet of Georgia to travel, we find ourselves obligated to postpone the Romeo & Juliet performances that were initially to be held from April 22 to 26, 2020.
Considering the fact that we do not know the duration of these necessary measures of confinement, it is difficult for the company to estimate a date for our artistic team to resume rehearsals. For this reason, we must also reschedule the Sleeping Beauty performances that were to take place from June 3 to 7, 2020.
Les Grands Ballets has also taken the following actions to ensure your health and safety, as well as that of our staff and artists, and do our part in limiting the spread of Covid-19:
I wish to express my full gratitude for the touching messages of support and empathy that we have received from you following these changes. They confirm that, even when faced with an uncertain situation, our community is stronger than ever. I also wish to thank our precious donors who maintained their generous contribution to our Benefit Gala and whose support is invaluable.
This season’s turmoils are exceptional and we share in your disappointment. Know that we are working relentlessly to bring back our shows and events and share more information with you in the upcoming weeks. The understanding, patience and unwavering support you’ve shown us is a source of inspiration as powerful as the passion of our artists and teams.
More than ever, we feel the importance of art: its transformative power, the hope it carries. Uniting us through adversity and uncertain times, it transports us beyond our daily life, allowing us to dream, to travel. We invite you to stay in touch with us and discover Les Grands Ballets in a new light via our social media and newsletter.
We are preparing for you various dance-driven content to bring a moment of escape and beauty to your days before we can meet again in the theatre.
I thank you for your trust. Take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
See you soon,
Ivan Cavallari
Artistic Director
