Every year, The Nutcracker by Fernand Nault features the King of Sweets, who welcomes Clara in his delicious kingdom. Cotton-Candy Angels, Chocolate, Tea and the Marzipan Shepherd, all imaginable sweets come to life in the Kingdom of this hilarious and quirky monarch, under the eyes of amazed children. For the last 55 years, the King of Sweets has been running around in his huge costume (which weighs 20 lbs!) and gigantic candy cane, impressing the young and not so young alike with his large smile and pirouettes.
You can see him Les Grands Ballets’ posters this year: photographed by Damian Siqueiros, dancer Andrew Giday has been playing the laughing clown for a few years now. Photo credits on a few of those images have unfortunately been given to the wrong photographer; Les Grands Ballets wishes to apologize to Damian and underline his talent.
Long live the King of Sweets!
